Our founder, Greg Hind, had a reputation for doing what others could not – and that is especially true in the world of water polo!
1966
Our founder, Greg Hind (a Pan-Am Gold Medalist, Three time All American Water Polo player for San Jose State and 2-time U.S. Olympic Trials Water Polo player), developed and patented the first ever Water Polo Protective Headgear, called G-H Ear Guard from 1966-1969. This product launched our company, GH Company, Inc. in 1966.
1968
G-H Ear Guard was used in championship waterpolo.
1972-1976
Developed Swim Accessories that revolutionized the competitive swim industry: Compy Goggle (patented), Lap Display (patented), and Hand Paddles. We continue to sell the same iconic compy goggle (now manufactured by a different company).
1972
Selected as exclusive supplier of Water Polo Ear Guard at the Olympic games
1973
Invented the design of the original, and now iconic, H2O Polo vinyl bumper sticker. It appeared in Swimming World Magazine this same year.
1976
For the second time, selected as the exclusive supplier of Water Polo Ear Guard at the Olympic games
1977
Developed our first piece of apparel – the Water Polo Suit
1978
Developed our first 2-Piece Competition Swimsuit for women
1979
Developed The First-ever Fitness Tight, the ST2 running tight (later to be known worldwide as the HIND Sportight), a lycra running tight that revolutionized the fitness industry
1980
Willie Gault wore the ST2 on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and the product took off
1980
For the third time, selected as the exclusive supplier of Water Polo Ear Guard at the Olympic games
1983
ST2’s name was changed to Sportight and known worldwide as the HIND Sportight
1984
Under the HIND Performance brand, introduced Polypropylene Sportight and Windjammer Suit
1985
HIND entered the cycling market with development of the Tailwin Short
1986
HIND introduced Animal Short, The First-ever Compression Short, and developed ProCore fabric
1987
HIND assisted W.L. Gore & Allied Fibers in the development of Dryline Fabric
1988
HIND developed and marketed first Dryline Sportight and first-ever women’s sportsbra: the Sportop
1989
HIND patented the first-ever Women’s Support Top, The Sportop sports bra
1989
HIND trademarked the Drylete name and introduced Night Blade Reflective Cycle Short. Greg Hind was named California and Western Region Entrepreneur of the Year
1990
HIND introduced Prime Inner Line
1991
HIND developed the first-ever technical apparel line for women only and introduces Tour Suede Inner Liner
1992
HIND pioneered and introduced Dryplex fabric to Sporting Goods Industry
1995
HIND developed and patented the first-ever Cycling Short with Flat Seam, revolutionizing the cycling industry
1995
Greg Hind sold the Hind Performance brand, and started GH Sports, continuing to design and manufacture run, cycle, swim, fitness, and triathlon apparel; selling direct to consumer
1996
GHSports.com online store was launched
2010
GH developed the new Aqua Line for aqua aerobics
2010
Greg Hind was named the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year
2014
GH moved our retail and manufacturing facility back to our Award-winning Original HIND Performance headquarters (built in 1987) at 3765 S. Higuera Street, Suite 100, on the corner of Hind Lane in San Luis Obispo, California.
2016
Celebrated our company’s 50th Anniversary and launched the 50th Anniversary Edition of our iconic men’s and women’s Munich Tights
2018
Enhanced the shopping experience with a new website for GHSports.com – now more intuitive, streamlined, and mobile–friendly. Continued excellence in tune with our “Made in the USA” GH Apparel.
