Re-Energize Your Body & Spirit in 3 Simple Steps

Between work responsibilities, family duties, fitness activities, and simply trying to “do it all,” it’s easy to get wound up, stressed out, and overwhelmed. Taking moments each day to re-energize can help calm our minds and be present in each moment. Three easy ways to feed our body and spirit right now is to be still, breathe and hydrate.

bestill.breath.hydrateBe Still! Feeling anxious, too busy, on-the-go? Take a few moments to stop in your tracks and be still. Just one minute of being calm, quiet, and still can defog your brain and set you back on track for the day.

Breath! Are YOU holding your breath right now? Shocked? Shouldn’t be. Breathing is a subconscious activity; our bodies know they need oxygen to function and survive. Quite often though our patterns at work, during exercise, or in moments of intense focus, we hold our breath, take shorter breaths, or simply lose a good rhythmic breathing pattern.

Taking thoughtful time to breath detoxifies our bodies, releases tensions, brings our thoughts to the present moment, and feeds our body with oxygen it needs.  An exercise that I’ve enjoyed is breathing in for 5 seconds, holding the breath for 5 seconds, and exhaling for 5 seconds. Repeat, relax, enjoy.

Hydrate! Water is an essential chemical component required by our bodies. Water makes up about 60% of our body weight, flushes toxins out of our organs and provides a moist environment for our vital systems to function. Too often, we wait for a sign of dehydration – THIRST – before we pull ourselves away from our task at hand and grab a drink of water.

Drinking fluids (preferably good ol’ H20) first thing in the morning, throughout the day, and even more when exercising or sweating will give your body the fuel it needs to stay energized and reduce fatigue. When we are energized and alert, we have more patience, a clearer head, and ability to relax in and enjoy each moment.

Be Energized,
